PhD Genetics
As an Undergraduate, I was in a pre-med program studying to be a MD because I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. During these studies I was told that if I did research in a lab it would increase my chances for entry into Medical School. I then took on a research project in a Molecular Biology lab studying the genetic requirements for photosynthesis in bacteria. In this project, I cloned genes, modified bacterial genomes and quantitated gene expression. I soon discovered that I was good at doing this kind of work and what’s more important, I really liked doing it. It was then that I realized, if I continued on this path to be a Scientist, I could have the possibility to positively impact millions of lives. So, this began my decades long journey to gain the scientific skills, education and experience that I would need to launch a project that could address global problems. With Synovance, we are now well-positioned to use Precision Fermentation to tackle several of the world’s most pressing challenges, one strain at a time.
